La Concha / Sara Montiel

Today has passed away Sara Montiel, the last myth of the Spanish classic cinema. She was probably the most beautiful face of our silver screen, a defiant woman who always broke rules and taboos. Nowadays many of the young people of our country don’t understand the importance of this artist, but for many others it will last the memory of a great leading figure of our show business. A lady of our cinema, music, cabaret, revue, the forgotten Paral·lel, and a free woman who never felt ashamed of doing whatever she felt like doing. Never forget her husky voice, her mesmerizing face, her outspoken mind. Just… Sara Montiel.

She loved Barcelona, and she even made a TV program called "Come to Paralelo" in the early 90's. A revue TV show presenting the Paralel avenue to all Spain. That place that time ago was our personal Montmartre and today is unfairly forgotten. 

Here are some pictures that I took in the pub La Concha. A charming place devoted to her in the Raval quarter, also known as the Chinese quarter. The walls of this gay pub are all covered with beautiful pictures and portraits of Sara, just as if it was a vintage sanctuary. It’s a unique place.

Hoy nos ha dejado Sara Montiel. El último mito del cine español. Para muchos, el rostro más hermoso de nuestra pantalla. Una mujer desafiante que siempre rompió reglas, y tabúes.Y aunque posiblemente los jóvenes de hoy en día no sepan comprender la figura de esta artista, para otros muchos quedará el recuerdo de una gran figura de nuestro espectáculo. Una dama del cine, de la música, del cabaret y la revista, del olvidado Paralelo barcelonés, del descaro entendido en buenos términos, y de una mujer libre que no se avergonzó nunca de hacer lo que le dio la gana hasta su último momento. Una voz inolvidable, un rostro hechizador, y en definitiva… Sara Montiel.

A Sara le encantaba Barcelona, e incluso presentó un programa de TV llamado "Ven al Paralelo" a principios de los años 90. Un show de revista con el que enseñó el Paralelo a toda España. Ese fantástico lugar de nuestra ciudad que aunque ya esté olvidado, en su época fue el Montmartre catalán.

Os dejo con unas fotos del bar La Concha. Un lugar encantador dedicado a ella en pleno barrio del Raval, conocido también como el barrio Chino. Las paredes de este pub gay están repletas de bonitas fotos de Sara y los carteles de sus películas, como si de un santuario se tratara. Un lugar único.
